WHAT IS MODIFIED FASTING?

In this article, we will explore what Modified Fasting is and what benefits it can bring to both your health and longevity.

Ageing is a natural process that we all face, but many of us want to slow it down and maintain our vitality and youth, right?

The good news is that nutrition plays a crucial role in promoting healthy ageing.

One of the innovative nutritional approaches associated with anti-ageing is Modified Fasting, an approach also integrated into our new Advancis 360º Ageing Nutrition programme. In this article, we will explore what Modified Fasting is and what benefits it can bring to your health and longevity.

WHAT IS MODIFIED FASTING?

Modified Fasting, also known as “Fasting Mimicking Diet” (FMD), is a nutritional approach that involves mimicking the effects of fasting, while still providing the body with the essential nutrients it needs to function properly.

Instead of completely abstaining from food, Modified Fasting involves restricting calories for a specific period, the duration and content of which is personalized and adapted to each person. During this time, protein and carbohydrate intake is reduced while the amount of healthy fat and other specific nutrients is maintained, creating a fasting-like condition.

MODIFIED FASTING IS BASED ON 7 BENEFITS:

1. Autophagy: Prevents the accumulation of cellular damage, including DNA repair.

2. Mitophagy: Increases cellular energy through the renewal of mitochondria, a process known as mitochondrial biogenesis.

3. Optimizing circadian rhythms: Promotes the synchronization and ‘regulation’ of our internal clocks, important for energy metabolism, digestion, sleep and immune response.

4. Promoting the production of ketone bodies: These have positive effects on brain health, energy metabolism and metabolic health.

5. Increasing antioxidant defence at a cellular level.

6. Reducing ‘inflammageing’: Process of chronic inflammation associated with the appearance of chronic diseases related to ageing.

7. Increasing the diversity of the intestinal microbiota, optimizing intestinal health.

Modified Fasting is included in the ‘Anti-inflammatory personalized nutrition’ component of our Advancis 360º Ageing Nutrition service, aiming to mitigate functional declines associated with ageing and reduce the incidence of diseases.

Please remember that, before implementing any type of dietary restriction or diet, it is essential to consult a qualified health professional to ensure that they are fully adapted and suitable for your specific case.
